Local businessman David Zumaya is raising money as part of My San Diego North County Relay for Life to fight cancer.
On Thursday, May 14 on his birthday he did his personal Tour of Ten Cities, a bicycle trip which included a number of coastal cities as well as Escondido, where he stopped in front of the city’s Charity Arch to talk about the number of people over the years who had been close to him who lost their loves to cancer.
“We all know somebody who has had cancer in our life. The best thing we can do is work to make sure that the next generation doesn’t have to hear the word cancer,” he said. “My little part is riding a bicycle for 75 miles.” He started at 6 a.m. going along the coast cities of Del Mar, Encinitas and Carlsbad before jumping onto the San Luis Rey bike trail and going to Vista and Escondido.
The San Diego native has been working in Escondido for 20 years.
The North County Relay For Life June 27 event was supposed to be at Palomar College. Due to COVID-19 the event has been cancelled and is now an online virtual event on Facebook Live. Members invite individuals to join them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/RFLNorthCountySanDiego/ Relay for Life event page
He added, “We are producing a video Luminaria Tribute Video of Cancer Survivors and remembrance of those who have lost their fight to Cancer. We ask for individuals to send us stories.”
