One of my family’s favorite meals is Beef Rouladen. It is such a hearty, authentic German meal that can be served with the traditional Spaeztle or rice noodles and red cabbage. This is a great meal to have your kids help make too! Getting your children in the kitchen to cook at a young age is such a great experience for both the parents and children. These are memories that will last a lifetime with your little Chef!
4 beef thin cut top round steaks
4 slices of prosciutto
4 small gherkin sliced pickles
3 large carrots cut into strips
1/2 onion cut into strips
2 celery stalks cut into bite sized pieces
4 Tbl mustard
2 packages of gravy mix
1/2 red wine
Saute 1/2 of the onion, 2carrots and the celery in a large sauté pan. Lay each beef steak out and place 1 Tbl of mustard on each one spreading evenly. Place one piece of prosciutto flat on top of each steak. Place one pickle, one piece of carrot and one piece of onion towards the end of the steak. Roll up into a Rouladen and salt/pepper the meat. Secure with a toothpick so it does not unravel. Place the rouladen steaks into the sauté pan with the vegetables. Sear the meat on both sides. Mix the gravy as directed on package and pour over steaks and add wine. Cook approximately 20 minutes until meat is cooked through. Serve over Spaetzle, egg noodles or rice. Serves 4. Enjoy!
