A fatal collision between an SUV and a motorcycle occurred on Bear Valley Parkway in the unincorporated portion of Escondido.
On August 1, 2020 at approximately 3:55 PM a Yamaha motorcycle was traveling southbound on Bear Valley Parkway approaching Birch Avenue within the left lane. An Acura SUV was traveling eastbound on Birch Avenue. The Acura stopped at the stop sign at Bear Valley Parkway and entered the intersection ahead of the motorcycle. The Acura was struck by the approaching motorcycle. Escondido Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and treated the rider of the motorcycle. Unfortunately, the rider, a 29-year-old male from Escondido, died at the scene.
The driver of the Acura, a 73-year-old man from Escondido was uninjured during the collision and remained at the scene. The passenger within the Acura, a 71-year-old female from Escondido was transported to Palomar Medical Center for precautionary reasons.
Bear Valley Parkway was closed at the scene of the collision. Northbound traffic was diverted at Idaho Avenue and southbound traffic was diverted to Birch Avenue. The roadway was re-opened at approximately 6:50 PM.
Impairment is not believed to be a factor within this collision.
The incident remains under investigation.
