For over 50 years families have been making the journey to Bates Nut Farm’s Pumpkin Patch in Valley Center to create fall memories. The patch opens Thursday, September 24, and continues daily through October 31.

Hours are 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. on weekends. Returning this year will be Friday Nights at the Farm, with extended hours on October 9, 16 & 23. These evenings the Pumpkin Patch will stay open until 8 p.m. Opening weekend kicks off with “Celebrating Farm Life” Youth Education Day (September 26) and the Early Days Gas Engine and Tractor Association Show (September 26 -27). Photo opportunities abound at Bates with the colors, scents, tastes and sounds of the fall harvest season.

Numerous activities and events are planned throughout the season for the entire family. Tractor-hay rides, a straw maze, pony rides, petting corral, and the farm zoo are offered daily, with live entertainment, food vendors, face painting and Kids ‘n Paint and special events each weekend.

The Bates Stage will showcase music and entertainment every Saturday and Sunday from noon – 3 p.m.. Hungry visitors can purchase lunch from What’s Cookin’ BBQ and gourmet food trucks or snack on some kettle corn, ice cream, and other goodies.

The Valley Center Optimist Club will have their fundraising food booth open all month, and the Valley Center Lions will serve pancake breakfast on select weekends. The “Pumpkin Festival” Craft Fair will be held October 3–4, and showcases handmade items from local artisans. On October 10 is the annual Scarecrow Contest, and October 24–25 is Costume Contest Weekend.
