The Patio Playhouse Community and Youth Theater is presenting “The Fabulous Lipitones” from now through March 13.
What happens when a barbershop quartet loses their tenor to a heart- stopping high B-flat right before a national competition? Find out in “The Fabulous Lipitones.” Running at Patio Playhouse through Mar. 13. This uproarious comedy puts a fusty American musical genre into today’s globalized, sensationalistic world.
In this comedy the three surviving members are scrambling to find a tenor before a national competition. When they hear golden tones being sung over the phone at an autobody shop, the three Lipitones left are sure they have their fourth … but when they meet him in person, he’s not quite what they expected.
Featuring a dynamic foursome in Scott M. Kolod, Andy Softley, Jordan Malbrough, and Bob Gordon as Wally, Howard, Phil, and Bob, this musical by Mark St. Germain & John Markus premiered in 2013 and was acclaimed for its fun and entertaining nature in addition to its handling of “the biggest social question of not just today, but our entire nation’s history.” (Provincetown
Magazine), and the New York Times hailed it as what happens when: “Barbershop goes Bollywood, a song stuffed comedy.” Directed by Grant Gelvin with Musical Direction by Allan Webb & Royce Ferguson and played in the intimate Patio Playhouse Theater, this show is sure to entertain!
Performances continue through Sunday, March 13, with Friday and Saturday evening performances at 8 p.m. and afternoon performances on Sunday at 2 p.m.
