LITTLE COWGIRL, COWBOY CONTEST—One of the first activities of Western Days will be the Best Little Cowboy, Cowgirl contest at the Vaqueros kick-off May 16 at 5:30 p.m. at 28210 Lilac Rd., next to the Lilac fire station. The contest is jointly sponsored by the Republican Women Federated and the Vaqueros. Buy tickets in advance at www.vcrwf.org and www.valleycentervaqueros.com.
FREE BAND CONCERTS—VC Middle School Multi-Purpose Room. Community is welcome. Tuesday, April 28 the VCMS Beginning and Intermediate Bands and the award-winning Advanced and Jazz Bands will perform starting at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 29 the Lilac Elementary School Band concert starts at 6 p.m. and the Valley Center Elementary School Band performs at 6:30 p.m. Six dollar meal deals will be available both evenings: 1/3 lb. sirloin burger or Dietz & Watson hot dog with chips and a drink.
HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT— Someone has stepped forward to organize a horseshoe tournament for Western Days on Saturday, May 23 at the VC Community Center, where many festival activities will be taking place. Sign up between 8 a.m. & 1 p.m. at the Community Center. The tournament Starts at 2 p.m. The cost to play is $20 per team. Bring your own partner. There will be a 100% payout in this single elimination tournament. Rules will be announced at the tournament. The Community Center is located at 28246 Lilac Rd.
WESTERN DAYS KICKOFF AT LIBRARY—Before the rodeo and the parade come to the library for an afternoon of music, entertainment, community booths and free refreshments. The VC Library Western Days is set for Wednesday, May 20, and runs from 4 –6 pm. Opening ceremonies begin at 4 p.m., with the National Anthem, sung by VC’s own Rachel Van Koughnett, opening remarks from Supervisor Bill Horn and County Library Director Jose Aponte and the release of a flock of white doves to symbolize the start of Western Days.
Then everybody is invited to browse the community booths that will be set up on the library grounds.
