DOS VALLES GARDEN CLUB held their annual Awards program June 16 at St. Stephen Church. This year, proceeds from their plant sales enabled the club to give $1000 scholarships to three college students going into agriculture-related fields: Damian Stehly, Bresa Martin, and Sullivan Shimer. All three winners had left for their summer jobs and were unable to attend the awards program. The club presented checks totaling $2,500 to VC Elementary AG day, VC Middle School Thunderhawk Farms, VC High School and Oak Glen High School ROP Floriculture activities, and Valley Center Library, Friends of the library.
The VC elementary schools participated in the annual “Smokey Bear–Woodsy Owl “ Poster Contest. The posters were evaluated by the Valley Center Fire Protection District, and 15 winners were selected in the statewide contest. Representative Valeria Sauzo from State Senator Joel Anderson’s office presented the winners with certificates of appreciation. The Club also recognized and thanked Allinson Propane and the VC Library for their support of community activities. RECALL TO MOVE FORWARD— The County Registrar of Voters has approved of the recall petitions of a group of Pauma Valley residents who seek to recall two members of the Yuima Municipal Water District board.
The recall is aimed against George Stockton of Division 5 and Michael Fitzsimmons of Division 2.
The petitioners have until August 11 to complete the process. If they are successful a special election will have to be scheduled at a cost of about $10,000.
Since Yuima is such a small district, each of the five divisions have about 100 voters. That means that the petitioners need to gather about 30 names for each director they aim to oust.
