American Legion Riders to make 94-year old woman’s dream of riding a motorcycle come true

Miriam “Mim” Smith, a resident of the Felicita Vida senior living community, is having her dream come true of riding a motorcycle at the age of 94!

In her youth “Mim” loved taking pictures on motorcycles. She has never ridden one but has always dreamed of doing so. Mim is confined to a wheelchair, but that will not stop the American Legion Riders of Escondido American Legion Post 149. The American Legion Riders are hosting a motorcycle event for Mim and other Felicita Vida residents.

On Sunday, November 13, the American Legion Riders plan to arrive at Felicita Vida at 11 a.m. and escort the community bus, van, and family cars to the American Legion J.B. Clark Post 149 located at 230 E. Park Avenue, Escondido, CA 92025.

At 11:30 a.m. lunch will be served. At 12:30 p.m. the bikes will line up and residents will be brought to the bikes they will be riding on.

At 1 p.m. they will conduct a parade in the parking lot adjacent to the Post (they will not be going down major streets.)

There will be motorcycles, three wheelers, and a motorcycle with a side car for Mim.

“This is our opportunity, along with volunteers and sponsors, for our residents to fulfill a dream to do something they have never tried or to try something one last time,” said Shelly Sobczak, memory care activities director at Felicita Vida.
