The 4th annual Tamale Festival is coming November 3, 11 a.m.–4 p.m. at Grape Day Park in downtown Escondido.
The Escondido Tamale Festival is a celebration of tamales and all the great Latin foods that have become iconic staples of California’s culture. It’s a look back at the history of the Spanish and Mexican settlers who influenced and contributed to our multicultural community, and a show of appreciation for the traditions, which have so positively affected Escondido.
General admission at the Escondido Tamale Festival is free. Anyone can enjoy tamale, food & craft vendors, beer and wine garden, live entertainment, best tamale & chihuahua costume contests, fun for the kids and more.

The optional VIP Package includes all general admission benefits plus: VIP Event Swag Bag, the Tamale Plate with 2 tamales, rice, beans, salsa, agua fresca, tamale making class, 5-tab beer/wine wristband, 1 raffle ticket, bottle of water and exclusive seating in shaded VIP area.
Live on stage entertainment
Grande Stage entertainment featuring mariachis, folklorico, flamenco, salsa, Latin and youth dance performances.
Contests and exhibits
See who will win the “Best Tamale Contest,” with special guest judges. There will also be the Chihuahua Costume Contest and Fashion Show with prizes from Hawthorne Store. Hispanic Heritage exhibits and low rider car club display by “Dukes Car Club.”
Free Levitt Summer concert Series Finale 4-7 p.m. adjacent to the Tamale Festival, featuring Las Cafeteras and Dueto Dos Rosas.
Fun for kids
Free Air Rocket Building by SD Makers Guild, Kids Fun Zone, face painting and henna tattoos and Grape Day Playground.
The Escondido Tamale Festival is presented by the Escondido Downtown Business Association, a 501(c)6, for the marketing, support, and preservation of the 127 year Old Historic Downtown Business District. Portions of the proceeds from the Escondido Tamale Festival will be used to promote Historic Downtown Escondido as a shopping, dining and entertainment destination.
