3rd annual Tamale Festival to be held Nov. 11

Escondido Downtown Business Association will be sponsoring the 3rd Annual, Escondido Tamale Festival November 11, 11 a.m.–5 p.m. at Grape Day Park.

“The Escondido Tamale Festival is a celebration of tamales and all the great Latin foods that have become iconic staples of California’s culture.  It’s a look back at the history of the Spanish and Mexican settlers who have influenced and contributed to our multicultural community, and a show of appreciation for the traditions which have so positively affected Escondido,” said Alex MacLachlan, president of the association.

He added, “Come to Escondido in North San Diego County for some traditional fun and The Best Tamales in Southern California!”

Admission is free to the event.

A VIP Tamale Package is also available including tamale plate, 5-Tab Beer/Wine Wristband, VIP event bag, tamale making class (for the 1st 100 VIP’s), one raffle ticket, bottle of water, exclusive & shaded, VIP seating area.

ON STAGE ENTERTAINMENT

Live Grande Stage entertainment featuring mariachis, folklorico, Aztec, Latin and youth dance performances and a Chihuahua Costume Contest and Fashion Show.

CONTESTS

See who will win the “Best Tamale Contest,” with special guest judges.  And don’t miss the Chihuahua Costume Contest and Fashion Show.  Learn how to enter your Chihuahua by visiting the association’s website.

VETERANS DAY CEREMONY

Learn about your local veterans 10-11 a.m. at the “Wall of Courage” presented by Escondido’s Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1513, American Legion Post 149, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 70.

Hispanic Heritage exhibits and Low Rider Car Club display by “Dukes Car Club.”

FUN FOR KIDS

Kids Air Rocket Building Crafts (FREE) by “San Diego Makers Guild” in honor of our Veterans, Fun Zone, with Rock Wall and Euro Bungee Power Jump (fee), Face Painting and Henna Tattoos (Fee), and Grape Day Park Playground.

The Escondido Tamale Festival is presented by the Escondido Downtown Business Association, a 501(c)6, for the marketing, support, and preservation of the 127-year-Old Historic Downtown Business District.
