Escondido Public Library invites adult readers to join the 2nd Tuesday Book Club meeting on October 10, at 6 p.m. in the Turrentine Room for a group discussion of the 2017 One Book, One San Diego title “The Sandcastle Girls” by Chris Bohjalian.
The book was selected by KPBS and its partner libraries across San Diego county, including Escondido Public Library. Copies of the book are available for check-out in print or eBook format and can be reserved at library.escondido.org. For more information on One Book, One San Diego, and a list of county-wide community events surrounding the reading of “The Sandcastle Girls,” visit kpbs.org/one-book.
Recent college graduate Elizabeth Endicott travels to Aleppo, Syria to bring aid to the Armenian deportees. She soon finds herself involved with Armen, an Armenian engineer who has lost everything. “The Sandcastle Girls” is told through the modern eyes of Elizabeth’s great-granddaughter, who makes profound discoveries about both herself and the seldom discussed Armenian genocide of WWI.
2nd Tuesday Book Club will continue on November 14, for a group discussion of “In a Dark, Dark Wood” by Ruth Ware.
Library programs are sponsored by Friends of the Escondido Public Library and are free to the public. Escondido Public Library is located at 239 South Kalmia St. in downtown Escondido. For more information about the 2nd Tuesday Book Club visit library.escondido.org or contact Adult Services Librarian, Monica Barrette, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 760-839-4836.
