Abel Martinez, an 11-year-old Escondido resident this week won a national competition through Navy Federal Credit Union, on East Valley Parkway for being a “Super Saver.”
Abel is notorious for saving, almost to the point of obsession. He saves his own money for college and his future car, keeps track of his savings with a log, and is also a charitable giver.
His mother told The Times Advocate: “Many times you see kids get recognized for academics and sports, and although Abel has definitely won awards in both, it is so nice that he is also acknowledged for his fiscally responsible ways, especially in one so young and in this economy. We are so proud of him.”
