Escondido Union High School District has named Ron Peet the 2017 Teacher of the Year.
“Whether in the classroom or on the tennis court, Ron Peet helps every student realize and meet their full potential. For over 36 years, Peet has guided San Pasqual High School students through the challenges of understanding all levels of high school math,” declared the statement issued by the district on Tuesday.
A proponent of group work, Peet believes that by letting students communicate mathematics they will be better able to think critically and comprehensively. Holding all students to high standards, he is able to assist students in making sense of, justifying and generalizing mathematics. While emphasizing the importance of problem solving, Peet ensures students are also able to explain and apply newly mastered concepts.
Recently, Peet was recognized as the CIF Coach of the Year, having served as head tennis coach for the San Pasqual Boys and Girls Tennis teams. Under his leadership, the teams have won multiple league and CIF Championships He also serves as a “coach” for fellow math teachers and has been instrumental in the implementation of new math standards.
The statement also says, “An active Escondido community member, Peet is very involved in a variety of service projects in addition to coordinating the annual exchange program with Australian students. Ron Peet’s professionalism, commitment to students, calm demeanor, and heart of gold have earned him the admiration of students, parents, community members and colleagues. We are proud to announce Ron Peet as the Escondido Union High School District’s 2017 Teacher of the Year.”

- Rachel Richards (Orange Glen High School, English Teacher)
- Noemi Iraci (Valley High School, Counselor)
- Tanya Ruhe (Escondido Adult School, Academic/GED Preparation Teacher
