Police increase patrols around transit center

Last night’s shotgun shooting at the Escondido Transit Center that involved two young males and a third individual just outside of parked North County Transit District bus has caused the Escondido Police Department to increase patrols to this facility, said Lt. Justin Murphy today.
The two young men were arrested and the shotgun located by police shortly after the incident and the third suspect has not been found.
Asked if the shooting was gang related Lt. Murphy told The Times-Advocate it “unknown at this time.”
The bus driver who was injured by a fragment when the shotgun was fired at the window of his bus was taken to Palomar Medical Center. According to a spokesman for the bus company, “The driver is fine and had no major injuries.” The injuries were apparently caused by fragments of shattered glass rather than a shotgun pellet.
