The California Center for the Arts, Escondido (the Center) appointed a new member to their Board of Trustees at their monthly meeting on Thursday, March 23.  Judy Tillyer accepted a three-year term, joining board Chairman Cynthia Weir, Vice Chairman Robert Dudley, Treasurer Andrew Washburn, Secretary Karen Jobe, Chris Cochran, Barbara Fischer, Judith Hamilton, Rorie Johnston, Steve Nelson, and Halicia Perkins.

Weir remarked, “Judy Tillyer’s vast experience as an educator, her non-profit background, and her love and support for the arts will bring tremendous value to our organization.  It is my great pleasure to welcome her to our board of trustees.”

Tillyer, along with her husband, Tim, have been involved with the Center since its inception as both original contributors and members. “When we learned that Escondido was building an art center, we were thrilled. Having an Escondido facility dedicated to the arts was a dream come true,” she told the Times-Advocate.

Tillyer received her BA and MA from San Diego State University. She began her teaching career at Valley Center, teaching 4th, 5th, and 6th grades, before transitioning into an administrative role. She retired from Vista Unified after 18 years as the elementary school principal.

An Escondido resident since 1968, Tillyer is actively involved in the community. She currently serves on the Board for Palomar Family Counseling Service, is a docent for the Escondido History Center, and has been a member of the San Diego Zoological Society for 52 years. The Tillyers have two children and four grandchildren, all of whom are Escondido residents.
