Continue to get the paper

A free paper is nice, but from the perspective of the bottom line, getting paid to send papers to our readers is even nicer.

We enjoy our relationship with the readers of Valley Center and Escondido. They tell us that one-year after we began publishing a print edition they never miss reading it and don’t want to stop getting it.

Many residents in Escondido receive the paper for free while the great majority of residents in Valley Center also get it for free. In addition, we distribute the paper at many locations in Escondido’s downtown business district.

In Valley Center we drop the papers off at many retail locations along Valley Center Road. Two very prominent places in Valley Center where you can get the paper are the Valley Center Library and the Country Junction Deli. We have been told that people have sometimes gone to the library and other retail locations and not found the paper. The reason for that is simple: they ran out. We print a certain number of papers, and when they are gone, they are gone.

When we started out a year ago, we mailed papers to every address in Valley Center. The issue you hold in your hand was mailed to every address in Valley Center. However, beginning a few months ago, we began leaving off some of the mailing routes. Currently we are rotating this around so that some locations get the paper for a few issues, and then they don’t get it for a few issues. This is to encourage people to sign up to get it all the time.

We are still a free paper, but we are starting to collect $20 to mail ten issues to homes and businesses, mainly because so many of you insisted that you wanted to pay to get the paper regularly. This covers mailing costs.

Bottom line is: if you don’t want to pay for the paper, there are plenty of places where you can get it for free. If you’d like to support our efforts, however, send $20 for ten issues to: Times-Advocate, 29010 Lilac Rd., Ste. C, Valley Center CA 92082.
