On Saturday, April 29, 2017, at about 3pm, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department notified the Escondido Police Department of a possible homicide that occurred in Escondido. Witnesses stated they discovered the possible murder of their friend via the social media app “Snapchat” and indicated the suspect was an acquaintance named Salvador Sanchez, a 19-year-old Escondido resident.
After a thorough investigation by EPD, it was learned that on Thursday, April 27, in the evening hours, Sanchez had a disagreement with the victim while drinking in an undisclosed area of Escondido. A fight ensued, and Sanchez killed the victim. Sanchez then drove the victim’s body to the 49100 block of E. Paradise Creek Lane in Valley Center where he dumped the victim’s body and buried it in tall grass.
The victim’s body was located on Sunday, April 30, by EPD detectives. The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Forensic Team and personnel from the Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene and collected the victim’s remains. An autopsy is pending for Tuesday, May 2, and the victim will remain unnamed until the Medical Examiner can make a positive identification and notify next of kin.
Sanchez was arrested Sunday, April 30, at about 2:50pm, on Ash St / Grand Ave in Escondido and booked into the Vista Jail for PC 187(a) – Murder.
